    Women's History Month (2001, 2005)

  • Creative Quotations from Creative Women for each day of the year from a famous woman who was born on that day. Calendar is not current (from 2000) but quotations are still relevant.
  • First Ladies portraits and biographies from Martha Dandridge Washington to Hillary Rodham Clinton.
  • Godey's Lady's Book Online several complete issues of one of the 19th century's most popular women's magazines. fashion illustrations galore, plus poetry, engravings, articles.
  • Michigan Women's Hall of Fame - biographical and other historical information; calendar of events, resources for teachers, and information on current exhibits.
  • National Women's History Project - a clearinghouse of information about women's history. Has "the Learning Place" to with information about museums, performers, and quizzes. Excellent collection of links.
  • Notable Women Ancestors biographies and geneaologies of all women ancestors, from notables to pioneer women to grandmothers. Add your own heroes and relatives to this growing database!
  • Timeline of Women's Suffrage a detailed timeline of the women's suffrage movement. American Women's 72-year fight to win the vote. Created by the Library of Congress.
  • Women's History Month - form InfoPlease, has speeches, Nobel Prize winners, quotes, and much more.
  • Women in World History Curriculum -free lessons for middle-school and high school students
  • Women's Legal History Biography Project - biographies of women lawyers practicing in the late 1800s through the end of the 20th century.
  • Women Who Changed History - Created by Scholastic- has interesting interactive activities, integrating math, science, quizzes, puzzles. Has lesson plans for teachers and resources for parents.

National Jazz Appreciation Month (JAM) (2002, 2005)

  • Jazz: A Film by Ken Burns - Hear excerpts of bebop, cool jazz and otherstyles. Explore clubs where jazz developed. See biographies of nearly 100 musicians, interview transcripts, a "virtual piano," lessons, and a study guide. (WETA, supported by National Endowment for the Humanities)
  • Jazz Kids - created by PBS, allows kids to identify instruments and rhythms, improvise (need helper app), and has info on great artists in jazz.
  • Jazz Kids - website encourages kids to become jazz musicians. Has games to learn notes and piano keys, music books to buy and download.
  • Passion for Jazz - has music, commentary, history & education.
  • NPR's Jazz Site - http://www.nprjazz.org/links and programs
  • Smithsonian Jazz - portal site to learn about jazz. Includes a "Discover Ellington Online" exhibit.
Autism Awareness Month (2001)
  • Autism Society of America - has information to understand, treat and educate those with autism
  • Autism Society of Michigan - links for local and national organizations, bibliography, and general information about autism.
  • Autism Network International - autistic-run self-help and advocacy organization for autistic people. Provides listserv, retreats, penpal directory, personal stories.
  • Autism Resources - a wealth of articles and links to resources on parent training, vocational rehab, insurance, social groups, advocacy, chat rooms, and education.
  • Division TEACH - Treatment and Education of Autistic and Related Communication Handicapped Children - Information on educational approaches, communication approaches, publications, research, and training opportunities.

    National Poetry Month (2004)

  • Favorite Poem Project - 39th Poet laureate, Robert Pinsky created the Favorite Poems Project to encourage reading poetry aloud across the country. This site shares his address and several audio files of poems.
  • Fooling with Words with Bill Moyers - Has video clips of many current poets reading their work. Great performances!
  • National Poetry Month - Links to 1200 poems and information about 450 poets
  • World of Poetry - International poets and their work represented with video and audio clips, interviews, text and info.
  • Storytellers: Native American Authors - Gateway to Native American authos (including poets), their work, related events and books.

Asia/Pacific American Heritage Month (2001, 2004)
  • AskAsia - A resource site for K-12 Asian and Asian-American studies programs.Includes lesson plans,maps, timelines, and full-text articles. The Adult-Free Zone includes international e-pal connections, an origami lesson and Japanese onomatopoeia game (require Shockwave), student-produced art, and Teenage Tokyo, a manga serial comic. Created and maintained by the Asia Society
  • AsianWeek: The Voice of Asian America - has broad political, current events and entertainment news with an Asian-American focus although some info is specific to San Francisco Bay Area..
  • Asian American Net - links to organizations and cultural information with the aim of linking communities. Gathers regional and country-specific materials available on the Internet and local language and English, on-line newspapers and magazines.
  • Asian Pacific American Heritage Month - by Information Please, has history, timelines, quizzes, special features.
  • Pacific Islanders -from the Open Directory Project, has links for specific groups of Pacific Islanders: Maori, Filipino, Hawaiians, Melanesians, Micronesians, Polynesians. Topics range from crafts to theology, politics to cooking.
  • U.S. Census "Facts for Features" on Asian Pacific Americans.

Gay & Lesbian Pride Month (2001)
  • Triangle Foundation - Michigan statewide civil rights, advocacy and anti-violence organization for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people.
  • OutProud,The National Coalition for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgender Youth. Has wide range of resources available for youth and educators.
  • Alternative Family Magazine- for GLBT parents and their children.
  • QueerAmerica - National database of more than 4,000 lesbian and gay support organizations. Search by zip and area code.
  • Pridenet: Gay Lesbian Transgender and Bisexual Resources - has all variety of support and resources organized by states and countries.
  • COLAGE - national and international organization in the world specifically supporting young people with gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender parents.
  • Lesbian History Project links to archives and oral history collections featuring lesbian history.
