Want to understand a little more about what the web is and learn how to find information faster? Walk through this tutorial and learn the basics. You will need to know how to use a mouse before starting this tutorial. If you are unfamiliar with using a mouse, go through the New User Tutorial first.

What is the "Information Revolution"?

Information is available via computers. Started out as the ability to share text files, because of the Internet it grew to graphical and sometimes interactive display of articles, newspapers, video clips, and audio clips.

What is the Internet?

  • Networks connected to networks
  • Available to anyone
  • Websites, email, ftp, licensed databases
  • Connected via ethernet, modem, DSL, wireless, cable, etc.

What do you need to know

  • How to navigate the Web
  • Searching on the Internet
  • Safety on the Internet
  • That there are great licensed databases available to you via the web!
