We invite
you to review this web site for educators!
Fill out an
Assignment Alert form. Teachers of any
grade level can now contact the Brighton District Library Youth
Services or Young Adult department using our online form. This
service is designed to give educators a quick, easy and convenient
way to request library materials for their students use. Please
note: students may be unable to check out materials in subject
areas where our collection is limited or in high demand. In these
instances, they should be prepared to spend time working in the
library or make copies for at-home use. To request materials for
your assisnment or if you prefer to speak to someone in person,
please call the Youth Services desk at 810-229-6571, ext 223,
or to fax your assignment to (810) 220-3161 and a librarian will
be willing to assist you.
Unsure of
how to use our online databases
and catalog? We offer teachers and parents
training in these areas. We offer group and classroom tours, storytimes
and book discussions on a given topic, Internet and online catalog
instruction for all ages including college students. The goal
of your tour will be discussed when you contact the library. You
may request a tour from our website.
We are happy
to suggest age and ability appropriate materials for your child
or student. The Youth Department,
Young Adult, and Adult
Services Departments contains a wide variety of library materials
in a variety of formats for educational use of students of all
ages.

Children
-We offer picture books for the young child and chapter
books for new readers. For ease of selection, beginning
readers and literature containing alphabet and number concepts
are noted as such. Juvenile fiction is also coded by genre.
A separate area for series
books for children is also designated. Teachers and parents
alike enjoy our themed Story Totes. These tote bags are filled
with everything you'll need to lead a great preschool or early
elementary storytime including: books, puppets, fingerplay,
rhyme, song, and craft ideas.
-
Young
Adult materials are available and are designated by a YA
sticker on the binding. Non-fiction and fiction YA materials
are heavily used for book reports and research papers. There
is also a large collection of graphic novels (comic-book like
novels), audio books, and music CDs for recreational use.
-
For
everyone! All departments offer a wide range of videos for
education and entertainment use (see our new
adult video list). Books-on-tape (see our new
adult audio list), CD-ROMS, musical recordings and periodicals
are available for check out.
-
Coming
soon! A special collection of parenting materials will be
available for browsing and circulation.
Reading lists
for children and teens can be found
on our website. Lastly, the Youth Services Department offers a
notebook filled with numerous reading lists covering a wide variety
of subjects and interest areas. Ask at the Youth Services desk
for this handy reference tool. Please feel free to visit or give
us a call. We look forward to meeting and working with you.
